About Me & My Approach to Therapy

Leah Richter, LCSW – Online EMDR therapist in California

Hello! My name is Leah Richter.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing online EMDR therapy across California. I help adults facing anxiety, burnout, and the lasting effects of relational trauma, including recovery from narcissistic abuse. Many of my clients are professionals or caregivers who look successful on the outside but feel exhausted or disconnected inside, while others need help to process painful experiences and reconnect with themselves.

As a neurodivergent therapist, I understand how survival strategies—like overextending or overachieving—can mask deep emotional pain. I help clients notice these patterns, not by asking them to be less of who they are, but by supporting them in reclaiming clarity, self-trust, and the right to take up space.

Raised in a family of educators, I bring curiosity, structure, and humor to the work we do together. I believe healing doesn’t mean changing who you are, it means reconnecting with your instincts, boundaries, and capacity for joy.

My approach is relational, direct, and warm. I’m certified in EMDR and also trained in DBT, ACT, and other evidence-based approaches that help people move forward with clarity and confidence. I integrate these methods with a focus on emotional attunement, nervous system awareness, and sustainable healing.

My specialties include:
Processing trauma with EMDR
Healing after narcissistic abuse and emotionally manipulative relationships
• Addressing burnout and boundary struggles in high pressure work and family systems
• Working through guilt and family enmeshment
• Supporting professionals who push themselves hard but still feel “not enough”

I received my Master of Social Work from Simmons School of Social Work in 2019 and am licensed in both California and Arkansas. I’m also the founder of Sound Mind Whole Heart Therapy, where I support clients navigating trauma, anxiety, and the invisible weight of overfunctioning.

Outside of therapy, you’ll find me hanging out with my dogs, cracking terrible dad jokes, or devouring detective novels. I believe laughter, curiosity, and rest are essential parts of healing too.
